Electricity Conservation and You
Description

This project will have you and your action team exploring the world of energy use and investigating alternative energy options. You will take part in a school audit to study and analyze what uses energy at school and how you can start conserving it! At the end of the project day you will take on a mission to lower energy use school-wide.

Teaching Process
The resource is divided into four parts preceded by an overview that provides background information for the activities and a comprehensive list of web resources to support both teachers and students.
Part A. Getting Ready and Asking Why, consists of two activities that address student misconceptions about electricity use and explore various methods of current electricity generation along with their consequences.
Part B. Taking Action, includes two authentic activities that involve students in measuring electrical consumption and conducting a school energy audit.
Part C. Essential Follow Up. Students reflect on personal habits relating to electricity use and assess the procedural strengths and weaknesses of the audit.
Part D. Extending the Learning, provides students with a range of appropriate suggestions to expand upon and apply what they have learned.
