The website focuses on the oil industry mainly from the producer’s perspective but includes information regarding what the oil sands are as well as how oil is extracted, the relationship of some Aboriginal groups with the major oil companies, as well as detailed geographic and economic information regarding the communities surrounding the oil sands. The website is neatly organized and easy to use, and includes information classified under the following headings: What are Oil Sands; Topics of Interest (including the Keystone XL); Regulating and Monitoring; Energy, Economy and Environment; Presentations and Publications. The website also contains lists of companies involved in the oil industry in Canada.
In general, the CAPP site paints a favourable picture of the oil sands. Negative environmental and social impacts are presented as "challenges" and solutions are emphasized. However, it represents an important stakeholder’s perspective on the issue in an easy-to-navigate format. Whie it focuses mainly on the oil sands in Alberta, this website is an important resource for all those doing research on the topic regardless of which province or territory they live in.
