Shape Poems from Your Country
Students from different countries will research the most famous things of their country / region They will present the unique things’ description in a shape poetry format and post them on-line. They will compare posted unique things as a part of life in their countries.
Time Required: 1 month
by the end of the lesson students will be able to
• Identify and explain culturally valuable items from their regions
• Present them as a poem
• Design the poem in a shape poetry format and post it on-line
• Compare presented poems, national symbols and values of their countries
* Student Activities:
* Step one - 2 weeks
Students will research famous and very traditional things from their country /region that symbolize cultural values - artifacts that represent significant elements of the local culture. Students will gather facts, legends, stories about them.
* Step two - 1 week
Students will prepare a visual representation of the research. They will choose an artifact of their country/region on behalf of which they will speak. Students will compose a small unrhymed poem (about 10 sentences) that includes results of students’ research. They will cut the shape of the chosen artifact out, and write the words inside according its shape. They share the works with their class and post them on on-line message board.
* Step three - one week
Partner students from both countries will organize on-line discussion with questions and answers to clarify more details about posted information about the artifacts as a part of culture, traditions, ways of life. Students will find similarities and differences between values and attitudes of their people with their class and post them back on-line.
* Goal of the lesson:
• To exchange information of culture and traditions in different countries , values and believes of people through poetry activity
All three steps should be completed in time
